Bangladesh Seeks Tariff-Free US Farm Products
Bangladesh is making headlines by proposing to buy US farm products, including cotton, without tariffs to prevent reciprocal US tariffs on its exports. Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus wrote a letter to President Trump, asking for a three-month delay on these tariffs and suggesting initiatives to boost US-Bangladesh relations, like launching Elon Musk’s Starlink in Bangladesh. The country is facing a 37% tariff that threatens its vital textile sector. As India exports over $2 billion in cotton to Bangladesh, this move is also important for Indian textile firms operating there. Bangladesh aims to reduce tariffs on US products and remove trade barriers to enhance cooperation.
