Trade body CAIT has urged the RBI to direct banks to stop offering cashback on ecommerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. CAIT’s Praveen Khandelwal claims that aggressive discounts and bank cashback offers are harming traditional retailers, with around 1.5 lakh retailers struggling due to these practices. Khandelwal also called for the suspension of upcoming festive season sales by these ecommerce giants, citing further damage to domestic businesses. Additionally, a CCI report found Amazon and Flipkart guilty of antitrust violations, prioritizing select sellers and listings.
