Personal Data Being Sold for as Little as Rs 150, Investigation Reveals

A recent investigation has uncovered that personal data, including flight bookings, broadband requests, and mutual fund investments, is being sold for as little as Rs 150-Rs 300 by informants to call centers and telemarketers. Workers like Rishabh Shukla gather sensitive information from sources such as visitor logs in residential complexes and sell it to online platforms. This data is then passed to brokers, interior designers, and other services. Despite upcoming privacy protections under the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, experts warn that compliance may take years, and AI scams are worsening the situation.
