In September, demat accounts surged 26% to 12.97 crore, driven by strong returns in local equities. Over 30.6 lakh new accounts were added, marking the second consecutive month with over 30 lakh additions. This rise is attributed to a buoyant market and active acquisition campaigns by brokerages.
September also witnessed the highest number of IPOs in 13 years, with 14 companies raising around Rs 11,800 crore. In SME IPOs, 37 firms raised over Rs 1,000 crore, the highest since 2012. This uptick in demat accounts reflects a sustained trend, fueled by the youth's preference for equities. However, caution is advised to prevent heavy losses in case of a major crash.
