SEBI is considering increasing the limit for the Basic Services Demat Account (BSDA) from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, aiming to make it easier for small investors to park funds in their demat accounts. If an investor's BSDA crosses the Rs 10 lakh limit, it will be upgraded to a regular costly account. SEBI also proposed clearer rules stating that each individual can have only one BSDA, online statements should be free, and charges for printed statements will be Rs 25. Additionally, there will be no charges for balances up to Rs 4 lakh, and charges of Rs 100 annually for balances between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 10 lakh.
