Markets Suffer Worst Week in Over 2 Years as Global Tensions Rise

India's benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, dropped 4.5% this week, marking their steepest decline since June 2022. On Friday, the Sensex fell 809 points (1%) to close at 81,689, while Nifty lost 236 points (0.9%) to end at 25,015. This came as tensions between Israel and Iran raised concerns over rising oil prices. Foreign portfolio investors sold Rs 37,088 crore of Indian stocks, redirecting funds to China, where valuations are more attractive. India's market capitalisation dropped by over Rs 16 trillion, reflecting the worst week for Indian stocks in two years.
