The Empowered Committee overseeing the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme has approved the release of Rs 1,000 crore for large-scale electronics manufacturing in the fiscal year 2023-24. This marks the first disbursement of the year, benefitting eligible firms. Notably, Samsung's contested claim is not included in this release.
The PLI aims to boost production with fresh investments and offers 4% to 6% of incremental sales. The large-scale electronics manufacturing sector, including mobile phone production, has been a standout success. It's now meeting over 95% of the domestic demand for mobile phones and has witnessed substantial export growth. Other sectors under the PLI scheme, like High Efficiency Solar PV Modules, have seen slower adoption.
