Sensex, Nifty Drop as IT Stocks Lead Market Decline

In today's trading session (Sep 4, 2024), the S&P BSE Sensex fell by 404.78 points to 82,150.66, and the NSE Nifty50 declined by 136.35 points to 25,143.50.

The decline was driven by a 1.4% drop in Nifty IT, reflecting concerns over a slowdown in the US economy ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy meeting. Major losers included Coal India, ONGC, Wipro, LTIM, and Infosys. However, Asian Paints, Grasim, BPCL, HUL, and Ultratech Cement were the top gainers. Analysts point to global slowdown fears, particularly in the US, as key factors impacting market sentiment.
