Zomato CEO Goyal walks back on ‘Rs 20 lakh fee for job' caveat

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has retracted his earlier statement requiring a ₹20 lakh fee for a Chief of Staff (COS) position, calling it a miscommunication. In a follow-up post, Goyal clarified that the fee was intended as a "filter" to find candidates who would appreciate the fast-track career opportunity without being hindered by financial constraints. The initial job description had sparked significant debate, with candidates required to pay the fee while forgoing a salary for the first year, in exchange for what Goyal claimed would be a learning experience greater than a top business school degree. This is not the first time Goyal has walked back a controversial decision; earlier, Zomato canceled its green fleet initiative after backlash.
